Scott Blews is a partner with Taylor-Busch and primarily focuses his practice on labor and employment litigation and counseling, business litigation, and restrictive covenants disputes. Before joining Taylor-Busch in 2007, Mr. Blews clerked for United States District Judge Wm. Terrell Hodges, was an associate for six years with the labor & employment team of King & Spalding, served in-house for four years as a Senior Employment Counsel for Delta Air Lines, Inc., and was a partner and the leader of the labor and employment practice at Brock, Clay & Calhoun.
At Delta, Mr. Blews litigated employment law cases in state and federal courts throughout the country, provided advice with respect to policies, procedures, personnel decisions and internal investigations, and conducted training for supervisors and human resources employees. Mr. Blews was the primary employment counsel for Song, Delta's low cost carrier, as well as Delta's Health Services and Technical Operations divisions and its employee accommodation process.
In private practice, Mr. Blews has represented employers successfully in a wide variety of employment and other litigation matters in state and federal courts and administrative agencies in Georgia and throughout the country. These matters include cases involving state and federal discrimination statutes (including harassment claims), wage and hour laws, employment related state law torts, whistleblower claims, the FMLA, OHSA, misappropriation of trade secrets and restrictive covenants (including seeking and defending against requests for emergency injunctive relief), breach of contract, tortious interference with contractual and business relationships, and unfair labor practice claims. In addition, Mr. Blews represented two of Georgia’s largest school districts with respect to the unique employment issues and claims faced by public sector employers, such as claims alleging equal protection, due process, first amendment, and other constitutional violations under 42 U.S.C. § 1983.
Outside of the litigation arena, Mr. Blews has assisted clients with a broad range of employment matters, such as negotiating and drafting employment and severance agreements, creating and revising policies, procedures and handbooks, complying with statutory and regulatory requirements (including ADA, FMLA, WARN, OSHA, and wage and hour laws and regulations), and providing advice about day to day employment decisions. Mr. Blews also has overseen numerous internal investigations, including sexual and racial harassment investigations. Further, he has frequently provided training to clients' human resources, management and front line employees regarding compliance with applicable laws prohibiting discrimination and harassment and adherence to company policies and procedures regarding equal opportunity, professional conduct, wage and hour laws, the FMLA, and disciplinary action.
